Italian Cuisine
The immense popularity of Italian cuisine globally isn't unknown. You can find an Italian Pizzeria around every corner of almost every city in the United States. Not to forget that in every house, people enjoy mac and cheese as comfort food. But it would be wrong to believe that Italian food starts with pizza and ends with good pasta as this Mediterranean country has much more to offer other than these two dishes. In Italian Cuisine, there is a high use of fresh tomatoes, all kinds of herbs, great quality of cheese, all types of meat, seafood and fresh handmade pasta. Many find it hard to believe that Italians have been making noodles long back.
Italian and Greek cuisines are always mistaken to be same, but they are poles apart. The primary difference between the two cuisines is the use of cheese in most of the Italian dishes. Italians love to cultivate their own cheese and process them as per their food requirement. It is believed that some cheese is so expensive that cheese producers secure them in lockers.
If you are bored eating the same old pasta or pizza, you can try some of the authentic Italian dishes like Risotto, Polenta, Ribollita, Lasagna, Fiorentina Steak, Bottarga, Ossobuco, Carbonara, Focaccia, Arancini and Supplì. Another item which Italians love to relish every morning is a good cup of Italian Coffee. Once you taste a freshly brewed cup of Italian Coffee, you might not visit Starbucks ever again. Authentic Italian food is made with heart and soul, so go find a restaurant where you can relish Italian cuisine in your city.
Pizza
Pizza is a famous Italian dish savored around the world. The entire credit for the popularity of Pizza in the United States goes to the chain of pizzerias all over the country. While the base and the texture of Pizza remains same across the globe, it's the toppings that differs from country to country. In the United States, you will find the top pizzerias serving pizzas with the toppings of mainly beef, bacon, chicken, ham, and sausage for the non-vegetarians. Other than these famous meat options, Pizzas with veg toppings such as mushrooms, pepperonis, garlic, tomatoes, spinach, etc. are also famous in most restaurants in the United States.
Irrespective of your locality, you will find a variety of different restaurants in your cities offering pizzas of all different types. Pizza is hot favorite among people of all ages in the United States. A large size pizza is enough to feed a family of 3 or 4 at large. Pizza is also the most preferred food whenever a group of friends is hanging out together. Pizza gained popularity in the United States after the American soldiers stationed in Italy returned from World War II.
Over the years, different pizzerias in the United States have developed their own respective regional variations. Pizza gained popularity as the iconic dish in the United States in the second half of the 20th century. Whether you prefer thin or thick crust pizza, you can find a pizza of your preference at the best pizza restaurants in your city.

I met some folks for lunch and we had the pizza/salad lunch combo. For less than $10 we got a giant slice of pizza and a good-sized Greek salad, a ton to eat. Salad was enough that I took the pizza slice home. The salad had fresh ingredients, nice lettuce (not iceberg), good olives (not that crap from a can). Next time I will order it without dressing so I can control how much I put on (I'm not a dressing guy so I drizzle it on). Pizza was awesome dough, good sauce, nice toppings. And it was the NY thin style that I prefer over the too-much-bread style. Wood fired? I think so. I love what Nick's did to the decor of the old "#1 Super Buffet". It's warm and inviting, with chocolate-brown wood, stone, and earth tones. And the sign "NICK'S" is so cool...it reminds me of the sign in the movie "It's a Wonderful Life." Did they do that on purpose? Hard to believe it was an accident. That's because everything in Nick's looks well-thought out and purposeful. The service is good, food is good, atmosphere is nice. And it fills a nice niche in that campus-midtown transition zone where there are lots of houses east of Nick's but hardly any restaurants. People in that area have to go north to Old Town or south to Midtown. Now they are getting some good restaurants of their own. I hope they embrace Nick's as their neighborhood hangout.

I really wanted to like Nick's, and I think if some early growing pains are worked out, it may become a nice place. Unfortunately, as is, I would recommend skipping this place. While Nick's has a nice atmosphere in a good location and seems to be staffed by great people, these pros don't make up for multiple cons. Quality of food is noticeably subpar. Our dishes were bland at best, completely lacking in flavor, texture, and presentation. The sauces on our pasta were honestly worse than cheap jarred fare. The only flavor in the pesto was cheap oil-- and way too much oil. We had to use the red chili flakes set out for pizza to add any taste. Our food was lukewarm, which makes for a disappointing dinner. Add to that tiny portions that were wildly overpriced and the entire outing was disappointing. I hope Nick's improves, but I won't be going back to find out anytime soon.

We have been longing for a good, homestyle Italian place in FTC-it seems like a huge gap in our menu choices here. Sadly, this is not it. Tried the Gnocchi, which is supposed to be the house "thing". Fairly bland and it was a very small $16 portion they called large. My mom ordered a small pasta (for $12) and I would bet it fit in a 1 cup measuring cup. Mozzarella, while tasty, way overpriced for way too little. Our 20 year old was told a large pasta was enough for 3-she ordered it expecting to have lunch today. Hers was also very bland and she was still hungry when she finished it. The waitress was friendly and really good at bringing water. She couldn't answer a question to save her life. Nicks needs a complete menu/pricing do over and a better chef. Truly disappointing

I've been here 3 times now already, my wife likes and drags me along. I've ordered pizza 2x....and that's fine. Garlic Bread, I could have sent back, it sopped with butter and tasted fishy. Not garlicky---fishy. Overpriced but hey, I know they pay for location. They have to pay rent so it is what it is. So to give an idea, my wife ordered a drink, pasta, and dessert...add to that garlic bread....and the bill was over $30. We've come and had a $50 bill for 2. I'd say the best part about Nick's is two-fold. The Tiramasu and the drinks....the food..well....it could be better.

A local food blog gave this place decent review, so we checked it out . Food is fantastic as we heard! However service and price leaves a lot to be desired. The hostess took 5 min to wander the place just to tell us what the wait was. After being told all the bar height tables were reserved, another hostess then sat us after a few more minutes. The server was a bit absent minded as we didn't get silverware or plates till several minutes after our pizza and pasta came. The food was in fact very awesome. But... As it was more a bar atmosphere we felt it extremely overpriced. Was $80 for 2 adults and a 4 year old with just 2 drinks and an appetizer. If the price changes I'd go back but yikes!

Fantastic food, best Chicken Parmesan, meatballs around! We had a large family gathering and the food was amazing and we were able to bring it to us, so delicious and amazing customer service!

This is an update on a previous review. I will say I received an email regarding my negative review. He offered me a gift certificate to return. Let me say I did not reply to the owner nor did I accept a gift certificate. I returned to give Nicks another chance. And I'm very glad I did. We went around 8 pm on Fathers Day. And the service was so much improved. It was like day and night. Everyone was attentive and even Nick himself went to every table to check on things. The Caesars salads were delicious and I really enjoyed each of our sausage pizza and pepperoni pizza. I really give this owner credit. He read a negative review about his place and took it to heart. Nick, I applaud you! We'll be back for sure!
(5)Brandon D.
Personally, I thought that the entrees were undersized and overpriced. Certainly the food tasted very good, and the atmosphere was plesant, but not enough of an "experience" to justify roughly $20 16" pizzas or appetizers sold as "small plates". There are some resturaunts that have amazing food and exist to provide a memorable dining experience, and some that have just good food and are using pretense and decent design to try and make lot of money. I believe that Nick's wants to be the first type of resturaunt and is really just the second. While I enjoyed myself, I would not really recommend this as a nice, family style Italian resturaunt.
(3)Georgia K.
The food was great. a little over priced but great! Sadly after overhearing how the waitstaff was treated by someone in the kitchen I will no longer be visiting this restaurant. People shouldn't be talked to like that and management shouldn't allow it either.
(1)Dusty A.
Restorative. Over half way on a two week driving trip, Brought 3 hungry cranky kids here. The staff were fantastic, holding a table for us even though it was a Friday night. There's a decent tap list with 8-10 choices. We had the pizzas. Two kinds. Just a one topping sausage and their specialty 'sausage'. They were fantastic. Really and I'm pretty critical as I'm a cook. Loved the atmosphere. The open kitchen and also the prices. There's a full bar as well as a table top Ms. Pacman! It has a neighborhood type place feel but is welcoming to all. I'd certainly be here a couple times a week if I lived here!

If I could give this restaurant 0 stars, I would. The garlic bread was terrible, sopping with butter and the chicken parm was dry, lacked flavor and literally ruined my anniversary by giving my husband food poisoning. The kale salad had good flavor but was severely overdressed. The risotto was tasty, but because our food took less than 10 minutes to get to our table after ordering, it was clear that none of it was made fresh. The atmosphere was really nice and the wine was good, but the food needs some serious work. Who knows, maybe we just caught them on a bad night with an inexperienced kitchen staff, but with all of the options in Fort Collins, we definitely won't be back.
(1)P K.
Ordered the Margherita pizza, picturing something Neopolitan and came away disappointed. It completely lacked authenticity and tasted meh. The back area is cool, with darts, pool, and games but gets cramped if another group shows up. We were there around 6 pm throwing darts when a bunch of unsupervised kids turned the place into daycare. We slammed our drinks and left.

I've been here twice. Once for dinner and for lunch. Our pasta dishes were good but my husband got a pork dish that was amazing! We asked them to make a small bowl of overcooked pasta and marinara for our 7 month old (no teeth) and they brought us nearly an adult portion cooked al dente. We should have sent it back but we don't like to waste food. For lunch, I had one of their salads and it was outstanding. Service was excellent both times and it was an easy place to bring the kiddo.
(4)Rob H.
Nick's is fantastic. We had probably 5 appetizers at our table and they were all excellent. We then had a custom pizza, one of the specialty pizzas and several other entrees, lasagna and chicken parm included, also excellent. The lasagna serving is cooked in its own serving plate so there's plenty of crunchy, cheesy crust going on and the tastes were amazing. The pizzas can't be beat either. As for the service, also excellent; we were a group of ten or so and it never slowed Ian or anybody else that was helping us down at all. They have a patio. They have a game room. They have a full bar with TVs for the game. They have a late night slice and beer happy hour that can't be beat. What are you waiting for? Eat at Nick's. I know we'll be back!

Overall, this restaurant is a great addition to the FC food scene. It's convenience to midtown South Fort Collins is a warm welcome for those of us who don't always want to go downtown. Being a new restaurant with few reviews, I will break it down as simply as possible. Decor: basic but warm. Nothing over the top. Service: still in the learning phase, but kind and quick. I was a little surprised there wasn't a steak knife in the house as we needed one for our cauliflower, but perhaps an oversight. Food: we liked everything we had (we shared) and we had a LOT. We had the Caesar Brussel sprouts (note: comes with anchovies on top), baked cauliflower (not a ton of flavor, but unique app), octopus (nice flavor and presentation), kale salad (simple yet yummy), carbonara bucatini (lovely, but rich. Nice to share) and chicken parmigiana. I'm not usually a breaded anything fan, but thought the chicken was insanely good. It was moist and packed with flavor. Drinks: the wine list needs some improvement. For red wine drinkers, I believe there were 3 options. The wine is on tap, so can be served by the glass or bottle for reasonable prices. With that said, I think the lack of variety could hurt them in the long run. I also had a Nick's ice tea which was good, but a little too sweet for my liking. Overall, I think this restaurant will do very well. I look forward to going back and trying some of the other options.

Tried Nicks for the first time last night and had a great visit. I would highly recommend this place to anyone. We spoke with the hostess that gave 3 recommendations for dinner. Our server gave 3 totally different recommendations. Means it must all be pretty good right? Arancini appetizer was delicious. Flavor bombs. Rich cheesiness and salty meatiness. What a great way to start. Wife got the gnocchi. I got the orechietti. Both were very well done dishes. My dish had nice subtle heat from the chillies. We both chose the smaller portion which was plenty after an app. Food A- Service/Friendliness A+ Atmosphere A+

On a cold and snowy winters night I found welcoming warmth and comfort at Nick's! I was seeking safety from the treachery on the roads and I found it in spades. The hot Italian grinder brought warmth to my belly and the Odells IPA was the perfect pair to go along with my refreshing Italian salad. The attentive staff was knowledgeable and helpful. The modem atmosphere and open kitchen left me feeling confident my food was prepared in a clean environment. Great value! Happy Hour Odells point for $2.13.

Really good garlic bread and pizza wasn't game changer but was none the less very good Really cool vibe and excellent music choice!

Would try again - with reservations. I would like to preface this review by saying that I came in with a large group during the dinner rush with a time limit (just over an hour). I know, I know - I've worked in food service, we were a server's worst nightmare. The group I was with had to be back for a rehearsal (which we were late for) but really we should have been prepared for that, so that will not factor into this review. I had a problem mainly with 2 things: 1. The quality of the food versus the cost and 2. The disorganization on the floor. The food itself was pretty, don't get me wrong, but don't charge $9 for FOUR prosciutto Arrancini with so little prosciutto I forgot it was in them. Seriously, I can get something similar with more meat at Ace Gillett's for $5. Same with the pizza toppings: the pizza itself was pretty good (for Fort Collins) but the topping situation was....bare. If I'm paying money for a nice pizza, I want to get my money's worth. The server was clearly overworked by our group, but there were a few things that happened that were big no-no's. It took them a very long time to get our drinks - I didn't order from the bar and it still took over 15 minutes and even though we told her of our time crunch, we were seated for at least 20 minutes before our order was taken (we ordered our food WITH our drinks to save time, just to be clear). Our two tables were serviced by at least 4 different people, signaling a clear lack of communication. When we finally asked for our order to go, it sat on the counter (the kitchen is open) while our poor server was running around trying to figure out what was going on. TL;DR Overall, the ambiance is nice and the food was pretty good, but the food is overpriced for the quality and the staff did not seem to communicate well. As I tried it early with a large group, I'd go again. But with reservations.

Hi there Fort Collins Yelpers! I don't often come up to FOCO and it's a shame. I always have fun. Today's dinner was brought to us by Nicks Homestyle, off College, and 5 stars isn't enough. I did read the other reviews and saw that their pasta seems to be the main gripe. I hope they sort that out, as everything I had and experienced was A+. I don't want to be "that guy" and over analyze everything, however I was genuinely impressed and it needs to be said. A lady friend and I came in on a recommendation, and were greeted by a gentleman named Giovanni. I could have sworn, and even asked, if he was "Nick" because he was relaxed and beyond friendly/happy to see us. We got seated quickly and the bartender/server came over and introduced herself. Marissa (Marisa?) went on to take our order, not being from Fort C I asked about the beers on tap and she guided me well. I settled on a Black Bottle and the lady some white wine. We had our hearts set on pizza, and were split between Sausage and Meatball. Marissa helped us none by saying "they are both REALLY GOOD" ... Just kidding, she did say that, but she also mentioned that sausage is probably ordered more. Sausage it is. We are relaxing, and it is relaxing... The ambiance is slightly above casual. I would not feel out of place at a business lunch... And I certainly didn't feel out of place in shorts and a sweater. Not too bright, not too dark. Comfy booths and no overbearing servers. Then the pizza comes. I must point out that I am an Italian. First gen, citizenship holder and hand talker. I have completely lost faith in the fair price colorado pizza. You can get quality at snooty places, but even then the price detracts from the authenticity. This is where Nicks stood out. The pizza was clearly hand made then oven fired, dark crispy burns in all the right places, no doughy "hot spots", cheese melted but not molten... And most importantly the sausage was moist and tasty. Not dried out from direct heat. The pizza, a whiskey, and Black Bottle pint was just perfect, and priced NORMALLY. I would sign this review now, stamp it five stars and log off. "But wait, there's more" - Billy Mays During this meal, Giovanni approached to double check that everything was good. I mentioned that even with my spoiled upbringing of incredible pizza, I was impressed. He must have seen an opportunity to get a 'native' opinion. For he came back to tell us about their home made Italian speciality beverage LIMONCELLO. Most know about Limoncello but few have had the real thing, real hand brewed and bottled Limoncello is a true Italian legacy. Well out come two glasses, chilled glass, and it hits every note. Sweet, sour, alcoholic aftertaste. A digestive. Settling the pizza and beer perfectly. I am, at this point, beyond impressed. I get a bit too chatty and excited and this gets Giovanni amped up too, so we wind up trying his new prickly pear purée drink. At this point we are just two buddies, me sampling his wares, and talking about the finer points of food and drink. You know what that reminds me of? Home. Italy. This is how Italian restaurants function. You walk in hungry, and walk out with a light buzz... Full. Full of good food and the overwhelming friendliness/family of the people operating the joint. All the while Marissa is double checking if we need anything, and keeping our stay comfy. I just can't speak higher of the whole experience. I truly hope that, while totally new to the scene, they can maintain that kind of experience for each guest. It was so much fun, and so nice. It genuinely reminded me of home, and that literally NEVER happens. Much less randomly on a Sunday night while stopping for pizza off College Ave. I'm conclusion I would just like to say, when mio Zia (italian aunt) visits this summer we are coming here. If not sooner. Please try treat each guest as you treated me tonight and you WILL be the next big thing in FOCO. Or at least to the first gen Italians. And they are the ones that's really matter. Thanks so much, Marissa, Giovanni, and Nick. Great time tonight. ::::raises glass of Limoncello::: Grazie

Went last night. Food great as always but still no espresso/cappuccino and now discovered no cannoli!!! Non capisco! Desserts we did have were excellent but cannoli is a staple and please never again run out of tiramisu on Tuesday if you wish to be an Italian restaurant. So close to a 4.5-5 but not there yet.
(4)MD M.
Wow. Wow. Wow. Rolled into Fort Collins for a family reunion. Got a recommendation for Nicks and they exceeded every expectation!!! The chicken parm was off the hook. The Penne with meat sauce...this is the real deal. The meatballs were outstanding. Fresh salad...MMMM! We got food for 24 people, the helping were huge, the food was fresh, hot and fantastic.
(5)Heidi K.
Oh my yumminess! Enjoyed two slices and a yummy salad for lunch. Hubby had a great steak sandwich, which unfortunately did not come with a sigle side item. Really, that's my only complaint. My girls ordered: one a small cheese pizza which she loved, and the other spaghetti and meat ball, which she more than loved. Literally devoured that bowl of pasta. Service was fantastic. Restaurant super clean, and to top it off super, duper clean restrooms. To me that's important. Chatted with the owner for a few, super nice guy. Overall, this is a fantastic local place that I would eat at often if I didn't live 55 miles away.
(4)Chase T.
Great blend of class and comfort. Only a few days in to being open and they got it dialed in better than many places in town. Nick is there too, the encounter was a welcome surprise, and he's out there ensuring quality and satisfaction at every turn. The food tasted like it was made with only fresh, quality ingredients, yet the prices don't seem to be inflated at all. We shared a medium 16" pizza, and it was priced the same as a local pizzeria that doesn't have all the charm and service that Nick's does. The pizza was the meatball, with diced sweet hot peppers and rapini. The flavor composition was phenomenal. Whoever they have baking 'zas, knows his stuff. Not skimpy, not overloaded, well balanced. I'm a stickler for pizza. If you do it wrong you'll probably never see me again. I'll go ahead and say it, despite how great places like celestinos, uncles, and Tony's actually, this was the best pizza I've had in Fort Collins. With how busy it was on a Thursday, I imagine nick's could fall short when they get a full house Friday or Saturday while they get their kinks worked out, but it shouldn't be anything more than issues with clearing items, refills, and food times. And that is just speculation. Atmosphere seems good for all walks of life: families, buddies, college students, older or younger couples. Theres a pool table and some pinball games tucked away when you need some entertainment. 1 specialty pizza, 2 beers under $30.
(5)Jeff J.
Great atmosphere, great service but need glutten free pizza options. Had to get the wings.
(4)Frankie G.
When you first walk in you think your have entered a fancy Italian restaurant. Unfortunately, it is just a high price pizza joint with the standard pizza joint entrees. I didn't feel like pizza so I went for a classic pizza joint entree, Chicken Parm. I was okay. Prices were higher than average. Won't be returning
(3)Julie F.
A popular new Italian place operated by the folks who brought us the Rio. Very good basic Italian food (pizza, pasta, etc.). More family friendly than foodie friendly (e.g., no wine list to speak of). A bit pricey but decent food and fun atmosphere. I'd go back for sure.
(3)Abs J.
I do like this place, but is way overpriced for what your getting. It has a fun atmosphere and yummy pizza. I have been a couple times and was happy with my order. Tonight, I ordered a pizza (yummy) and a salad. I was sad when I got home and realized half the lettuce in my 7 dollar salad was half gross wilted greens, that seemed past their prime, also the Gorgonzola add in seemed like just a sprinkles of shaved cheese. I will be back, but not regularly due to steep prices.
(3)Grace J.
I thought it was alright, but kind of a limited menu. I had the pesto penne and it was pretty good. Not amazing, but definitely not bad.
(3)John S.
Wine list is limited - 2 reds, 2 whites from obscure wineries. No Italian wines, really?
(3)Brad J.
I had some colleagues come into town for a conference at CSU this week and made plans to meet one for a dinner meeting. I decided on Nick's because I heard some good things about it from friends and it has very convenient access from campus. I think the place has a nice feel and is a great addition to the area. My impression is that it was really well put together, with lots of little details - nice to look around at if your dinner conversation has momentary lags. Like, I asked the waitress, and the walls are covered in planks from an old rail car that carried pipes (that's why they have black lines on them). I think stuff like that is cool. As for food, we got one app - brussel sprouts ceasar (or named something close). I loathe brussel sprouts - have for my whole life. I just went along with the order as a professional duty. But this dish kicked ass. I was pretty blown away. For dinner I got chicken piccata and my friend got Chicken Parm. The chicken parm was better, I thought, but it had an unfair advantage because it was breaded, fried and cheesy. The chicken picatta was really good too, though. It was tasty but the thing I remember is that it had an al dente texture (can you say that about chicken?) that was an unexpected treat. My only complaint is that in the "lounge zone" (I don't know what to call it), the Missile Command video game wasn't working. That was a serious short coming because I rocked that back in "the day" (80's) and wanted to go for the high score.
(5)Christopher N.
If you like the taste of straight flower then order their pizza. No taste at all and you get a chalky texture every bite. The atmosphere is great but the service was awful. The only time the server smiled was when my girlfriend ordered a second glad of wine. Will not be going back for more flour pizza.
(1)Ashley H.
We came here with a large group and they did a great job. The food was fantastic. Best carbonara I've had in a long time. The pasta was perfectly al dente. I'll definitely be back.
(5)Pam C.
Good beer, good atmosphere, very nice staff. Pizza toppings were a bit sparse. Side of garlic bread came out over cooked with quite a bit of black around the edges. Waitress offered to re do it. Second time was much better. Overall good experience.
(4)Susan L.
We had a 6:30 PM reservation (no wait when we got there), so my main complaint is that the place is LOUD! I don't understand why a restaurant feels the need to crank up the volume of recorded music over a jammed-packed restaurant. My companion and I had to shout at each other to have a conversation. Our waitress was quite attentive, knowledgable, and very accommodating, however. The quality of the food was good (although the pasta was almost "too al dente"), and I thought the prices were bordering on the unreasonable. I have read complaints about their pizza, and the couple next to us were having a pepperoni one. After I saw one of them sopping up oil from the top with her napkin, I asked them how they liked it. They said it was OK but there was better in Fort Collins for less money. Would I go back? Maybe, to try some other menu items, but not at the dinner rush.
(2)Paul S.
Tried this place, for the first time, last night. It looked amazing inside. Very cozy and comfortable. The manager, Betty, gave us some great recommendations on the menu. The calamari was awesome. It was flaky, with a bit of oil and aioli sauce. I got a sausage, pepperoni and roasted red pepper pizza. It was big and cooked very well. I also got to try the chicken piccata. It had spinach and capers and had tons of flavor. Our bartender, Ainsley was very informative about the menu and told us all about their tap wine selection. They have quality spirits behind the bar. It seemed a little pricey, which kept me from giving it five stars. Other than that, I can't say anything negative about the place. I'll be back, just not right away.
(4)C O.
Buddy and I came in for lunch Friday and had the Italian grinder and steak bomb. Both were on point, full of flavor and the service was spot on. Why 4 not 5 stars? The price. $11 is a bit steep for a grinder at lunch in this town but they were really good. I'll come back for dinner.
(4)Tori B.
Nick's is great! I love the location- pretty central in town but you don't have to deal with the hassle of old town. The inside is really cozy, a good mix between upscale and casual. We had reservations so we were sat right away, which is great. For dinner we got the prosciutto and fontina arrancini and the Hawaiian pizza with ricotta. Both were AMAZING. The béchamel sauce on the pizza was so creamy and delicious. My BF and I agreed that it was the best pizza we'd had in Fort Collins by far. Can't wait to go back and try more menu items!!
(5)J B.
Nicks was highly recommended by a friend, although I have never been out with them to know what they like etc, we went there for dinner on a April Saturday night, got seated promptly, nice redo on the interior but it allows for a noisy atmosphere, we questioned the server what is really good or what he liked, and it was obvious he wasn't into the food there at all, steered us away from the gnocchi, told us the calamari was different every day as far as quality and didn't recommend anything! OK soooo we decide to try the pizza, an order of the calamari (recommended by our friend) and an order of the carbonara. Service was fine although we should have taken the waiter's lack of enthusiasm as a indication things might be lacking and they were, the pizza had a strange taste to it, maybe the sausage seasoning but it was off, the Za was no better than anywhere else, similar to Positano's across the street, I'll take Posi's first, the calamari - not good - should have listened to the waiter - he tried to steer us away with out being to forthright, but it was chewy, and had a tasteless aioli on it, next was the carbonara, an Oily salty mess of pasta, again a strange flavor and a seriously small serving for the $$$ so we finished our drinks and called it another lack luster meal in ole FC, interesting but it is becoming apparent that many restaurants nicks included are associated with the Rio Grande owners and they all are very lackluster places. 415 being another. I just wonder why these places can't shine, the ideas are there, the attempt to make a decent restaurant is there, but it gets lost in translation, FC is dying for solid restaurants and we aren't there yet. Come on Rio restaurant mafia lets kick it up into high gear....

The food was delicious and unique with high quality ingredients. The service was also great, though drink menu/ liquor was lacking a bit. Overall amazing experience!

I'm impressed! The menu is a modern take on Italian homestyle food, with interesting pizza and pasta dishes along with the classics. We had the carbonara, which was excellent and unique; the spaghetti "calamari bolognese" which had a delicious slightly spicy marinara with lots of tender calamari. The kids had a small pizza- thin crust, great sauce. They did an incredible job remodeling the restaurant, and the open kitchen is a great feature. Areas for improvement- the wine list is pathetic. I hope they fill that out and at least add some italian wines. The service was friendly, but they are still getting their sea legs. I'll reserve judgement on that.

Just tried Nick's Homestyle for the first time for a friend's birthday dinner, and I'll have to say that I sort of expected more. 5-stars for the atmosphere and the decor - a nice comfortable setting that welcomes any age. My only complaint is the price point/food portions. I wanted to order a side salad before my meal and thought maybe they would have something of the like for around $3-4, but the only small salad that I remember seeing on the menu was for nearly $7.00! $7.00?! For a salad that is not a complete meal (for some). Our group of 6 ordered a few appetizers - calamari, garlic bread and meat & cheese with pickled veggies tray. Although the apps were good - the portion size sucked (except for the garlic bread since we asked for 2 orders), the calamari could have been a bit more and same thing for meat & cheese tray which comes on a butchers board and the portion didn't fill out the size of the board so of course it looked like a small amount of food - the variety of meat was good, but the cheese variety was terrible and the pickled veggies was a nice addition. I ordered the Chicken Parm which I enjoyed (the breading was crisp and delicious) and I was looking forward to the spaghetti with marinara, but...the pasta was dry and the portion of the spaghetti could've been better. My friends ordered the Lasagna with "Sunday gravy" - delicious; the Bucatini was very tasty with great flavor and so was the Orecchiette. Like I said earlier, my only complaint is the price point/portion size. The prices need major improvement - it's pasta for goodness sake! And it's an Italian restaurant - I should want to go home with leftovers just as I do whenever I go to Bisetti's or Canino's. Our waiter was great and really made an effort, except that when they brought us our utensils they gave us 3 napkins to share amongst 6 people, really? And I hate having to ask for a refill of water when it is the simplest thing to do while waiting tables. The restaurant business is not an easy one especially in this foodie town of Fort Collins where everyone loves to go out and eat. I hope the owner(s) take the time to read these reviews and improve on the other complaints of reviewers because this restaurant could really be great and a staple of this college town.

Wow. Far exceeded my expectations on all levels - we ate family style so tried most everything. Salads, apps, pasta and pizza. Great service, love the décor, and delicious food. My new favorite restaurant in Fort Collins! We'll be back - again and again. I'll also give it an "A+"

Nice interior, too bad nothing to break up the view of the bright concrete parking lot from the bar. (By the way, every exterior light in view of the bar customers are broken. Looks terrible.) Unfortunately Nicks does not offer Friday afternoon Happy Hour (in spite of what we were told on the phone.). To their credit, they honored what we were quoted as specials. Beers were fine, pizza slices were slow to come out and parched/dry. Server admitted the cooks forgot the slices in the oven - but served them anyway? Server did offer to remake slices at no charge. We had already waited quite some time. The moment had passed. The first impression tho cannot be undone. Cancelled our second beer order and left. They have plenty of opportunities for improvement.

Was really excited to try Nicks. First of all my wife and I shared a full order of Gnocchi Bolognese and an order of Garlic bread, so that is my only frame of reference for this review. The two stars is for the remodel and the decent service we received. On to the gnocchi, the Bolognese was very bland, lacked any flavor except for the flavor of cheap hamburger, the gnocchi were decent by themselves, would have enjoyed them tossed with a little brown butter and sage. The full portion was actually quite small for the money. The garlic bread we ordered was a dense heavy artisan style bread to begin with and then was literally dripping with what seemed to be a combo of canola oil and olive oil mixed together with garlic, it was really terrible and left a film in your mouth from so much oil. I was curious about some of the other dishes I saw leaving the kitchen and the pizza pies looked pretty good, I'm hoping this is just the qinks getting worked out, Fort Collins desperately needs some better restaurants or at least some chefs that can cook and show restraint. I would suggest the chef taste the food that is being sent out, I can't imagine he would have been happy with my gnocchi and garlic bread. Hope to try you again.......

Just opened and it was great. Four of us shared two different salads - one traditional Italian the other a fantastic brussel sprout creation- and a pizza. Fun atmosphere in a beautiful relaxed space. Can't wait to go back.

Tried this place for the first time tonight. I have to say the food was AMAZING! Being raised in an Italian family I am EXTREMELY picky with my Italian food. It is nearly impossible to make a perfectly textured gnocchi, most restaurants fail at this art. I have to say I was not disappointed at all with the gnocchi I ordered tonight. Bravo to the chefs/owners for doing such a good job with this. The reason I am giving this place a 4 rather than a 5 is not due to the food (I can't think of a single complaint to make about the food) but due to the pricing/portion. I was REALLY disappointed with the amount of food I was served compared to what I paid. I wouldn't have minded paying so much for my meal if I had gotten a larger serving. It's such a shame because the food was so good. Unfortunately due to the pricing of the food at this restaurant this will be a one time dining experience for me. Hopefully the prices will decrease or the portions will increase because I would love to come back and eat here again!

I ordered a plate of spaghetti for $12 and added one meatball for $6.50. One meatball for $6.50? It wasn't even a big meatball. Priced way too high for such small portions.
